Main Info
Winery Zagreus specializes in producing red wines from the varieties Mavrud, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. The winery and their vineyards are located near the town of Parvomay.
Since 2010 all the vineyards have been grown according to the EU regulations for organic production. The combination of the contemporary winery and a well-equipped laboratory with their own vineyards enables full control of the production process. This is a necessary condition in order to offer wines of a consistently high quality.
Vinica is an iconic wine for the winery, a winner of many awards including first place in DiVino’s ranking. It is an exceptional representative of the Mavrud variety, produced using a different technology similar to that of Amarone wines.
A visit to Zagreus is a must-stop for all wine lovers who want to get to know the local varieties and Mavrud in particular.
Sights and attractions in the regions:
The centuries-old symbol of Asenovgrad dates back to the 5th-14th centuries BC. Construction was first established by the Thracians, who chose the crime-free area as their refuge. Later in the 13th century, Tsar Ivan Asen II turned the fortress into a real palace with its own army and even administration. In the past, the fortress was known as the fortified settlement of Petrich (stone fortress). Later, it received its new name as a sign of gratitude to Tsar Ivan Asen II, who completed its construction. It was he who built the two-story church “St. Bogoroditsa Petrichka”, which today stands in an authentic form among the remains of the fortress. It is an active temple and welcomes thousands of domestic and international tourists every year.
The monastery is located on the picturesque bank of the Chepelare River (Chaya) in the Western Rhodopes, near the village of Bachkovo, 9 km from Asenovgrad. It is one of the oldest monasteries on the Balkan Peninsula and the second largest in Bulgaria after the Rila Monastery. Founded in 1083 by the Georgian brothers Grigoriy and Abbasiy Bakuriani, it combines a unique combination of Byzantine, Georgian and Bulgarian culture.
Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria. It is over 8,000 years old and its past can be traced from prehistory to the present day. Life in the city has not been interrupted, which ranks it among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Ancient monuments have been preserved and conserved, and many cultural events are held in the city.
