Main Info
“DeVina – Vineyards & Wine” was established in 2016 by two Varna
families. The inspiration behind this was the idea of offering the market high-quality wines which originate from the Northern Black Sea region. Driven by the love for good wine, they started the creation of their own vineyards.
The exact location of DeVina is determined by the exceptional qualities of the grape variety DIMYAT and the wines produced in the past, in the Komluka area, on the border of the Devnya and Aksakovo municipalities, very close to the Pobiti Kamani desert-like rock phenomenon. The traditions preserved in winemaking are today’s basis for the creation of several good wine cellars in the area.
The Komluka area is a magnificent place with a phenomenal panoramic view of the Varna Bay. The locality carries the tradition of growing grapes of the Dimyat variety. It is a place with deep roots and great respect for the land and nature. The location of the DeVina project was not chosen by chance. The rich natural and historical heritage of the region predetermines the tourist potential and requires an upgrade to provide a unique experience with an emphasis on local winemaking traditions.
The varietal composition includes the whites Dimyat, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Vrachanski Misket and Muscat Ottonel, and the reds Pinot Noir and Syrah. Currently, the vineyards spread across 75 decares. In 2020, they released the first series of wines under the brand “Gostat” (translates to “the guest” in Bulgarian) – Dimyat, Vrachanski Misket, rosé Pinot Noir. In 2021, they added a new brand – TESSERA, with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Dimyat, and later included Pinot Noir.
Their wines strive to bring the terroir characteristics to the maximum extent – a cooler climate, a feeling of sea breeze, sandy carbonate soils. These factors are a prerequisite for fresh, aromatic wines with a light body. That’s the style of both series, including the red ones.
There, among their vineyards, in an extremely communicative location just a short detour from the main road Varna – Devnya, the owners of DeVina welcome wine lovers for wine tastings in their new tasting hall. After an invigorating walk through the vineyards, accompanied by an inspiring story about the terroir, the history of the region and the love of wine that drives them to do this for a living, the hosts will present their wines in the tasting hall.
In the fall of 2024 a small wine cellar will also be built on the same site, allowing them to close the production cycle, while tourists are able to observe and empathize with the stages of winemaking during their tour.
Sights and attractions in the region:
The Mosaic Museum presents Roman and early Byzantine mosaics from Marcianopolis. It is located in the town of Devnya, about 30 km west of Varna. The idea of its construction was born in the course of the archaeological researches that began in 1976. During these researches, a large late Roman building with mosaics (villa urbana) was discovered.
The natural phenomenon “Pobiti kamani”, located to the north and south of the Beloslav Lake, represents outcrops of Eocene sands, among which are standing stone columns resembling a stone forest. The impressive landscape of the beaten stones is observed in seven large and several smaller outcrops.
The most famous is the “Centre – South” group. It is located 18 km west of the city of Varna. It includes about 300 large and small columns, up to 6 m high, rising mainly south of the old Varna-Devnya road.
