Main Info
Orbelus is the idea come-to-life of two families and it demonstrates their vision of the wine potential in the region of lower Struma River.
The project dates back to 2000 when the first 72 decares of land were bought near the village of Kapatovo in the foothills of Pirin. By 2010, the company acquired more than 200 decares separated into 20 independent mini-arrays in the lands of the villages of Kromidovo, Kapatovo, Marikostinovo and Hersovo, each with specific terroir characteristics.
All their vineyards are certified according to Bulgarian and European legislations for the production of organic grapes, which makes it the first organic winery in Bulgaria.
The wine cellar would like to unite all food and drink enthusiasts professing the protection of nature as a life philosophy.
The winery is impressive with its architecture resembling a big wine ageing barrel. The young technology team greets visitors on site with a smile and personally host the tasting sessions with the wines they have created.
The Balkan spring festival Orbelus Rhythm and Wine is emblematic for the winery.
Sights and attractions in the regions:
The monastery probably arose in the 13th century, when Melnik was a populous and rich mediaeval city. In its present form, the monastery dates back to 1732 along with the entire interior layout of the Church of the Nativity, completed on July 5, 1732, according to the inscription at the entrance. The Rozhen Monastery is known for its calligraphy school. Manuscripts were translated, written and transcribed here throughout the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Ancient city “Heraclea Sintica” is located 10 km from the town of Petrich and 1 km from the sacred area “Rupite”.
The city is located on the southern slope of the Kozhuh hill, a remnant of the only extinct volcano in the Balkans.
For over 1,000 years Heraclea Sintica has been the most important city along the middle course of the Struma. Homer is the first to mention the synths and their association with Hephaestus, the god of metallurgy.
Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria and a centre of attraction for tourists. It is attractive with its old houses, legendary history, beautiful nature and great red wine. The town has been declared a cultural and historical reserve. Interesting sights in the city include the City History Museum and the Kordopul House.
