Main Info
Mihovi is a family winery located in the birthplace of the Mihovi family and the legendary variety Keratsuda – Ilindentsi village. In the beginning of the 1990s the Mihovi family began to farm 6 acres of vineyards which during the year expanded to 30 acres fruit-bearing and another 12 acres of newly planted vineyards. Petar Mihov is the chief technologist of the winery and a third generation farmer. He grew up on the vines and his love for family and vines is his most cherished childhood memory.
Peter is strongly inspired by two local varieties, which are very rare in the region. Keratsuda is the most famous variety in the region around the village but its glory has long been forgotten and Peter strives to be the owner of the largest Keratsuda vineyard of 8 acres and to show what he considers the true face of the variety.
The second inspiration is the Melnik 82 variety which Peter defines as the most mystical variety that embodies the strict and professional path of the Mihovi family. The rich soils in the vineyards above the village are located at 640 m above sea level and this determines the character that the winery is looking for in the local variety. For Mihovi Estate Melnik 82 is the variety that most clearly expresses the philosophy of the winery and the 30-year work of all family members involved. It is about time that it is all showcased to more people.
